Field Trip to "The Dallas World Aquarium"!

Our first grade class had an amazing field trip to The Dallas World Aquarium! I loved seeing the surprised looks on their faces when they reached the top of the escalator and found a special little someone was there to join them as they toured the aquarium. A big thank you to all of our parent helpers who helped the trip run so smoothly! I hope you enjoy the slideshow documenting our wonderful adventure. Hint... Our Fabulous Safety Town Field Trip

Tuesday, October 5th our class ventured to Frisco Fire Safety Town to learn about motor and pedestrian safety. We had a blast driving jeeps and practicing obeying traffic laws. Check out the slideshow below to see our adventure!

Field Trip to the Heard Museum!

Have you heard about that amazing trip to the Heard Musuem? Before we went, we were a little unsure about what exactly we would be hiking and where the trails would lead us, but we were ready for the challenge! In the end we had a wonderful time seeing so many creatures in their natural habitat. Below you can see documentation of our adventure!!!

Can You Believe It?

Can you believe how quickly the past few weeks have gone by? It seems as soon as the week starts, it is already over! Luckily, we have started to find our groove with learning the new routines of third grade. The past few weeks have brought us author visits, exciting units of study in science, and our first novel study! We were captivated as author Jarrett Krosoczka explained his journey from a boy with a dream of being an author and illustrator to a published writer. His story showed us the importance of persistence and made us hungry to read his "Lunch Lady" graphic novel series! In addition to author visits, we enjoyed showing our spirit during College Week and had two visits from Mrs. Guevara. On her second visit, we learned about "Rachel's Challenge" and began our "Chain Reaction of Kindness"! Did you see the picture of Mrs. Guevara sporting a chain that will one day maybe make it's way all around the whole school! In class, we have loved our science units of study that have taught us about friction, matter, and most recently simple machines! We love recording our scientific findings and experiments in our science journals. Reading is never a dull moment when characters like Ramona and Willy Wonka are invading our room and math is full of exciting new challenges in fun, hands on, explorations! Doesn't it sound like fun! Student Question... What have you most enjoyed in the past few weeks and why?

Money, Money, Money!

"We're in the money, we're in the money", well we didn't get to actually roll in the money or anything, but we did get to see over $16,000 upclose. Last Friday, our class and the rest of second grade had the unique opportunity to tour the Comerica Bank in Frisco and have a lesson on financial literacy. When we arrived at the bank we were greeted by many bank employees and even the Mayor ProTem! We learned that the job of the Mayor ProTem is like an assistant principal to the mayor. After our warm greeting, we were divided into class groups and our class headed outdoors to view the ATM. Once at the ATM, Riley was given a card and got to pull money out of the ATM. To bad she had to give it back. Then, we were take back inside where we got to view the ATM from behind and see where the money was stored. Did you know that there is even a container that catches money that they don’t redistribute because it is yucky or torn? Our next stop seemed to be one of our favorites, the safety deposit boxes. We learned that these boxes can be rented out to store your treasures. All of the kids had great plans for a box they would like to rent. Next stop was the safe! Technology sure has changed the look of the safe. It didn’t look like the money vaults you see in movies, but it was still impressive. Our last stop on our tour was behind the teller booth. We got to view the cameras outside and work the tubes that bring money to and from the cars in the drive through. We ended our visit by receiving awesome goody bags and learning about what it means to save, earn, and of course we know how to spend. The trip to Comerica Bank helped us to better understand that those plastic cards don’t just give us money from the machine, but are part of the process of saving and spending the money that we earn. Before we left, several second graders were interviewed by the Frisco Enterprise so check their website to see if any of us made it on their webcast.
