The Safety Clowns Come to Boals!

We were so excited to see the Safety clowns on Friday! They are always funny and educational. Just see what our class learned from their visit...

Olivia says, “We walk our bikes across the crosswalk.”
Ethan I says, “Always check to make sure your helmet is tight and it is on the right way.”
Christian says, “Look left, right, and left again before crossing the street.”
Dallas says, “Get out of your house if it is on fire and go to your safe meeting spot. Don’t go back in the house, you stay out!”
Madison T. says, “Don’t run across the crosswalk.”
Jacob H. says, “Don’t answer anyone you don’t know on the internet. You don’t know if they are telling the truth.”
Mckenna says, “Don’t answer the door if you don’t know who is there and ask permission from your parent.”
Dillan says, “Click the crosswalk button and wait for the red light for cars and the hand sign to tell you to walk across the street.”

Fabulous Field Day!

Bluebonnet Party

After taking the time to read at least 5 Bluebonnet nominees and filling out Bluebonnet buzzes, students got to vote on their favorite book. Then, the votes were sent off and tallied with the rest of the state and the winner was announced! "Help Me Mr. Mutt" was the winner! Wahoo! Now, time to celebrate and party. Check out the pictures below of our celebration.

Commit Not to Quit Pep Rally

Before spring break we participated in a week long project emphasizing the importance of making a commitment to graduating from high school. Friday culminated our experience with a Pep Rally from FHS student council members, the FHS band, cheerleaders, and the dance team. Oh and don't forget about Frisky! After the pep rally, we moved into the classrooms where we signed our own commitment cards and wrote our own personal commitments to our future. Check them out hung up outside of the classroom. A special thank you to all of the community members and parents who filled out commitment cards too!

Snakeman Visits Bright Elementary

Trees, leaves, and nature, OH MY! We had a great time learning and exploring during our May 1st Environmental Day! Oakbrook Park was the perfect setting for tree related activities that helped us to extend upon our understanding of the natural world. The weather even held out for us and provided just the right temperature! After a quick meeting, students were put into groups and sent off to different stations around the park. Being grouped with students from different classes helped us to learn from different individuals and gave us an opportunity to see different ways of thinking! Of course, the day wasn't all work, we did enjoy a picnic lunch and the kids had a great time playing on the playground! By the end of the day, we were tired, but left with a different perspecitve and greater insight to the natural environment just around the corner from us! This day could not have been done without the help of amazing volunteers like Mrs. Tran, Mrs. Wilkins, Mrs. Jackson, Mrs. Cortes, and Mrs. Arena. Student question... What station did you feel that you learned the most from and why? If you could add a station, what would it be?

Last Friday May 1st, we had a celebration where students with the most P.A.W.S. tickets so far this semester in each grade level had the opportunity to choose a teacher to throw a pie in their face. Check out the funny pictures of teachers getting their "just desserts". If you get the most P.A.W.S. tickets at the end of the year, who would you choose to put a paw in their face?

Money, Money, Money!

"We're in the money, we're in the money", well we didn't get to actually roll in the money or anything, but we did get to see over $16,000 upclose. Last Friday, our class and the rest of second grade had the unique opportunity to tour the Comerica Bank in Frisco and have a lesson on financial literacy. When we arrived at the bank we were greeted by many bank employees and even the Mayor ProTem! We learned that the job of the Mayor ProTem is like an assistant principal to the mayor. After our warm greeting, we were divided into class groups and our class headed outdoors to view the ATM. Once at the ATM, Riley was given a card and got to pull money out of the ATM. To bad she had to give it back. Then, we were take back inside where we got to view the ATM from behind and see where the money was stored. Did you know that there is even a container that catches money that they don’t redistribute because it is yucky or torn? Our next stop seemed to be one of our favorites, the safety deposit boxes. We learned that these boxes can be rented out to store your treasures. All of the kids had great plans for a box they would like to rent. Next stop was the safe! Technology sure has changed the look of the safe. It didn’t look like the money vaults you see in movies, but it was still impressive. Our last stop on our tour was behind the teller booth. We got to view the cameras outside and work the tubes that bring money to and from the cars in the drive through. We ended our visit by receiving awesome goody bags and learning about what it means to save, earn, and of course we know how to spend. The trip to Comerica Bank helped us to better understand that those plastic cards don’t just give us money from the machine, but are part of the process of saving and spending the money that we earn. Before we left, several second graders were interviewed by the Frisco Enterprise so check their website to see if any of us made it on their webcast.
